In early 2006, MA Attorney General Tom Reilly was the favorite to receive the nomination from the Democrats for the gubernatorial election later that year. There was also a political novice in that race - a fellow named Deval Patrick. During that time when Deval was relatively unknown, it was common for people to call him Patrick Deval.
Since then, Deval Patrick received the party's endorsement at the 2006 State Convention by receiving 58% of the delegates' votes. In September, Deval received roughly 452,000 votes statewide to earn the party's nomination. Then in November, Deval Patrick received 1,234,984 votes and was elected Governor of Massachusetts. The inauguration took place January 2007, which means that Governor Patrick has been in office for over 18 months.
So why does Kevin Aguiar's website refer to the Governor as Patrick Deval?
This is a very simple concept.
If you don't know the Governor's name, you shouldn't be working at the State House.
***UPDATE*** : The error on Representative Aguiar's website has been corrected. The link to the PDF is also working now. Be sure to read it if you have a desire to be uninspired.

Kevin Aguiar is a slug politician that is Correia's whore on Beacon Hill.
I attribute this quote to Kevin Aguiar:
"It doesn't matter how many signatures you have and what the people of Fall River want, I have to do what the Mayor tells me to do."
I guess he feels the Mayor single handedly voted him into office and his allegiance is to him alone.
Kevin Aguiar a real man of the people.
Civics FAIL
Thanks for the update, frc. I feel so much better about Aguiar now that he's learned the name of the governor he's been serving under for the past several months.
I love the last sentence in his "Proposal" (whatever he means by that title):
"I will not hesitate to ask citizens and neighborhood groups to actively join me, not just in spirit, but in person and voice, to emphasize the passion and
strength of our positions."
Sure, he'll "ask" for citizen input, but then he'll ignore it and just go ahead and do what his patron King Bob tells him to do. (See anonymous' quote above.)
Hey, guess what! Did you know that receiving the Herald News is a qualification for being state rep? Kevin A. seems to think so.
Click on the "About" link on his website, scroll to the bottom and you'll see his impressive list of community involvement. It includes:
PRESIDENT: Maplewood Babe Ruth League; COACH: Sacred Heart CYO; and RECIPIENT: Fall River Herald News
Pretty cool! I get the paper every day. Delivered. And I tip well. Maybe I should rethink my career plans!
Oh, and I sure hope he's still reading your blog because he has to make another correction to his webite ... he forgot to include one of his best-known community activities -- RECIPIENT: Phone calls for illegal betting operation.
State Rep. Aguiar also applauds the Governor's commitment to build a highway ramp to our Industrial Park.
Hmmm... don't we already have a highway ramp to the Industrial Park?
I think Aguiar is referring to the plans for new ramps on Route 24 for the 300 acre Executive Park.
Okay, Kevin Aguiar is not too bright. What does that say about the people that elected him? Easily duped or not too bright themselves?
Go lick your wounds somewhere else! Seriously, was I to believe that a college grad would actually put that they "receive the herald news" as a qualification for office? The website had that he was the Award Receipient-Coaches who make a difference from the Herald News. I am of only mild intelligence, what does that say about your inability to figure that one out Mongo? (Rhetorical) I'm also sure that he didn't know the governor's name, and there wasn't a more logical explanation, like it was a type-o.
Having debunked two myths, I challenge the original attributed Aguiar quote. Funny it's attributed to him, but from what source. I would be completely surprised if he said something like that. Please post your source. And as for him being correia's whore, you obviously have not been paying attention to anything in the realm of the school committee in the past few months. (Although, I hope they maintain a cooperative relationship) Kevin has rewarded my faith and my vote, by continuing to ask the difficult questions and to hold the administrator's feet to the fire, for their endless voodoo mathematics and accounting!
To Anon,
To be honest, I wasn't going to vote for Kevin Aguiar to begin with because his challengers John Rodrigues and CJ Ferry are going to get dominated by Aguiar. My general rule for voting is not to vote for candidates who are clear winners because I think "running up the score" is bad for democracy. I can explain that concept in a little more depth if you'd like.
Second, people will have differing opinions about how much responsibility Rep. Aguiar has for his website. However, the person responsible did write "Patrick Deval." I had a feeling that the error would be corrected, and then possibly questioned or denied, so I did save the website with the error. You can find the error here..
http://fallrivercommunity.com/Documents/press.htm
It would be clearer to write:
"Award Recipient: Coach that Makes a Difference, Fall River Herald News"
rather than..
Award Coach that Makes a Difference
Recipient Fall River Herald News
Finally, watching School Committee meeting is certainly more entertaining than watching the City Council. The 4-2 vote in the School Committee has become as commonplace as a 6-3 vote in the City Council.
Oh, dear me, Anonymous #5. You are not a good advocate for Mr. Aguiar. Maybe he can't write, but neither can you read. Please, polish up those specs, check his website again and you'll see that it reads exactly as I said. (Unless he's made the correction in the last 2 minutes.)
Now, on to the matter of my meager brain cells, so sorry to disappoint you, but yes, even I was able to figure out what Aguiar MEANT to write: that he received an award from the HN for coaching.
My point was that with a website that he should have cared a great deal about--since its purpose was to get him elected--he was careless and made some silly mistakes.
Maybe it's not so bad that he didn't get the Gov.'s name right, or that he screwed up on an award listing; it's this: What happens when he's asked to vote on a bill that affects his constituents’ lives and he's equally careless? Like not taking time to dissect the wording; like not knowing which on ramp the city is asking for. Words are important. If Mr. Aguiar doesn't care about his own words, he's certainly not going to care about anybody else's
I am an Aguiar supporter, no doubt. My intent was just to show that the current bloggers on this topic were being a bit picky. I did not think that my comment would sway anyone's opinion, just maybe bring a little perspective to the matter.
I am also not requesting that anyone vote for Mr. Aguiar because he "seems" to be the front runner. We certainly know what happened to last years supposed front runner!(Seems some of you are still weeping on your pillows)lol
I simply vote for the guy because, he doesn't go hand in hand with everything the mayor says as some people on this site suggest. It's also quite obvious to me that some of you blog without ever watching a school committee meeting or else you would have been "Better Informed." ( Sorry if my previous blog was too demeaning! He also, once again, asks the tough questions, and maybe asks why the schooladmin loves to play the fuzzies with their math. What more could you want from the guy-Oh yeah a perfect website. Pleeeeaaaaase!
I have no problem with attacking the guy for issues, be my guest. Instead, we talk about a website type-o, maybe a quick reference error when giving an interview, oh yeah, an unattributed quote,(great work!) and my favorite a cheap shot.
I have an extra ticket to mr. Aguiar's cocktail party at T.A in Fall River Aug 28.(not at Venus or White's) I will introduce you to Mr. Aguiar and maybe you'll see that he's a great guy, just maybe not perfect.
To Anon 4:02,
Its not that Aguiar "seems" to be the front runner, but he's the incumbent with 2 weak challengers - he's going to win hands down.
I'm not sure what you mean by the reference to "what happened to last year's front runner." What race are you referring to?
I watch School Committee meetings on FRED TV, in fact I'm watching a meeting right now. I agree that anyone who watches School Committee meetings will see Aguiar, Cadime (and sometimes Martins) hold positions contrary to the Mayor and other members of the committee.
Of course anyone can make typos and dumb mistakes. But my point about the website was that the manner in which Aguiar presents himself and his ideas online is a reflection of how he will do so in the State House.
That said, on a positive note, I was shocked and very pleased to see Aguiar stand up to his patron, the mayor, at the recent school committee meeting during which the Robert's Rules issue came up. Though Aguiar looked extremely uncomfortable, he stood his ground. (I can only imagine the tongue-lashing he got from the mayor later.) Good for Aguiar, good for the city.
If only more of Bob's chosen ones had the guts to challenge this despot, we might have some hope of surviving the next year and a half. Now that he's done it so definitively, I will certainly have high hopes Aguiar will continue to challenge the mayor when necessary.
I think most Fall River think tanks had Leo as the front runner. Insiders claim his not debating was based on the feeling of being the front runner, which may or may not have been his undoing. Anon5
Personnally I don't see Aguiar on either side of the Correia fence. I like that he stands his ground, but hope he doesn't get pigeon holed into becoming typecast as the anti-guy and definitely not the whore either!
I'm not so sure that Leo was the front runner, because although he is consistently a top vote-getter on the Council, even some of his past supporters were not eager to send Leo to Boston.
Second, it was clear that the choice not to debate was not a matter of being the front runner, but simply that he would not be good at it.
Leo and Kevin were both top vote-getters so it was a tough race to predict.
I never heard at any point that Leo was the front runner. Historically when Leo has run for anything other then City Council he has lost handily. It is clear that the voters see him as a City Councilor and not someone that could hold a higher office. I felt that Aguiar was going to take it and no one ever tried to convince me otherwise. He was the front runner, people may or may not like him but he was the best choice in that race, that's not to say it wasn't a very weak field. If it makes you feel better you can say he was the best of the worst.
